So I might buy a laptop ( my parents might pitch in as my grad present!). I'm not sure if I wanna buy an Ibook. I'm not very fond of OSX, but I like what it is capable of. I have yet to try Vista, so perhaps that will make me happy. I doubt it though. Any thoughts?

Vista seems like a good bet to go, i mean, its not like we're getting any older, and everyone's bound to have it sooner or later.

Personally, i would prolly get a ... i dunno, one of the popular brands, just because they seem to be "reliable", so i dont really know what OSX is, or Ibook. I'd prolly be the stupid person asking what the difference is at the store. -.- ^^'

If you have the money, I would say get a MacBook or a MacBook Pro. As much as I would hate to give money to Apple, if money isn't an issue, they the MacBook Pros can run Windows, OS X, and Linux. If you don't feel like spending well, well over $1000, then a Windows laptop is for you. They can't run OS X, but can run Windows and Linux. I don't see any reason for you to run OS X though; you're not going to be doing heavy multimedia editing, nor do you have very much experience with using it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

And Windows is on well over 90% of all computers, and as such, it has a much wider selection of software.

Games for the Mac suck, but you won't get any viruses either. I've only ever gotten one killer virus, and I've had this PC for about 6 years.

And as to whether to go with XP or Vista, that's a personal preference.

I like XP. ^^ I like how different it is from 98, which is what we had before. My mum hates it, (she fears change), but i like it. ^^

I wish i had the money for a laptop, however, one needs a job to have money. *sigh* I gots to stop bitching and just go get a job. ^^'

And personally, I think thast it would be better to custombuild a puter, either by going and choosing what parts you want to put into the comp before you buy it, or just buy all the parts and build it yourself.

that ay, the computer will function to what you need, and not what others suggest.
I think it saves money.(maybe not time.. but money.)

I was going to custom build an Alienware laptop. I went on the website and did a custom job just to get an idea what I would be paying. It came to about $1,100 while trying to keep it in budget.

Yeah, you really can't buy the parts seperately for a laptop. Well, I'm sure you could, but an empty case is difficult to find, and you risk the part not being compatible. It would suck to buy all the parts and have them not work.

1,100 is a cheap alien ware. I made one that easily passed 8,000
